How the books are made
Skavinger publishes household preparedness references written for one country at a time, with every claim traced to a named primary source, and builds WORLDVIEW, a live situational-awareness globe. Two halves of the same idea: see it, then handle it.
Why one country at a time
Preparedness advice does not travel, and the reason is not culture. It is law and infrastructure. The amount of water a government tells you to store, the number you dial when the power fails, what your network operator owes you after twelve hours, whether you may collect rainwater, and what you may lawfully keep in the house are all different in each country.
A book that gets those wrong is not slightly less useful. It is misleading in the one situation where it matters.
What goes wrong when a book ignores that
The leading UK-branded preparedness title on Amazon carries a verified customer review saying the book is not for the UK market and contains subject matter that is illegal here. A second names the items: pepper spray and stun guns, both prohibited weapons in Great Britain. Both reviewers bought it because it said UK on the cover.
How ours are checked
Every factual claim carries a key into a source register, and the manuscript is run through build gates before it can ship. They fail the build on:
- a factual sentence carrying no citation
- a citation key that is not in the register
- a source last checked over 12 months ago
- an American source, agency, spelling or unit in a British book
- an item recommended that is prohibited here
- an instruction beyond ordinary household competence with no referral
- doom, politics, hoarding or vigilante language
- an em dash, an AI writing tell, or a number above ten spelled out
Gates catch what a script can catch. They cannot judge whether reasoning is sound, so every chapter is also read cold by a separate check whose only job is to try to refute it. That is how the two real errors in the first edition were found, and both were fluent, plausible and wrong.
What we will not do
We will not print a number we cannot source. Where a figure was cut during writing because it could not be traced to a primary source, it was cut rather than softened, and several sentences in the first book are vaguer than a first draft because of it.
We will not tell you things are worse than the government says they are. Several times the books say the opposite, because that is what the evidence says.
